Acquired this a little over a year ago and thinking of sending it to PCGS to have it graded. Does anyone see any reason I shouldn't. I have looked it over and I don't see any signs of cleaning and have no reasons to doubt its authenticity. What grade do you think it would receive? Trained eye opinions are greatly appreciated. Also, this will be my first coin to have graded. Any advice on that?

Is that a deep scratch perpendicular with the jaw? It's hard to tell with how dark it is. To clarify, I'm not talking about the gouge below the jaw nor the gouge that is pointing towards the ear.

This is the C-1 variety. The color is hard to figure out for me - maybe better pics in a different light would be helpful. yes - there are several hits on and around the face. There is something missing on the wrap of the curl next to the ear - not sure what that is all about. Generally it has the look of an AU grade. Not sure if it's worth sending in for grading - kinda costly for just one coin. Welcome to CCF. Waiting to see other comments................

Full-size pics are too dark to see surface details clearly.

dark photos but i'd call it AU55. the hit on the cheek due its depth and location may details the coin. going with PCGS you need a subscription. low end $69, economy grading fee $18. shipping and ins both ways...probably not worth slabbing imo

Nice enough coin with AU sharpness despite the few dings. Agree not worth slabbing but ok for a 7070 or type set example.

If it was to receive an AU55 grading, what do you feel the value of it would be after grading?

AU55. A few dings.
Markers: Strongly recut left uprights of AME, die chip between ED, fine die crack from U to tip of leaf
If it straight graded AU55 in a PCGS or NGC holder, full retail (what a dealer would sell it for) would be somewhere in the range of $450-$550, rough guess

An AU-55 with decent eye appeal.

I'm at EF-45, witth a discount for the cheek hit if it grades straight. I'd value it at around $200-225.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate everyone's insight. If I send it in to be graded, I will let you all know how it comes out.

I'll say AU-50 factoring in the hit to the cheek.

After seeing the close-ups I am now in the EF group.
