Strange or stupid as it may be, there is a tradition we all observe in the North West whenever a cyclone approaches....that is we all have a cyclone party and get shoosh.....

Perhaps there is logic in this madness...better to be blown away when you are well "oiled".

I suppose if you're underground and it floods, getting the water out could be a problem...

Seriously, Lim, stay safe. We're thinking of you.

Sap if the housing out west is anything like here or in Darwin, most houses are elevated high enough that you can walk around easily under the house. That way its a tad cooler and in floods your house does not get flooded. Buts its a pain in the arse getting furniture upstairs.

Ihave given it great thought but unlike Australia the average elevation of florida is about minus one foot below sea level
that accounts for all of the swamps.

There are very few buildings in the entire state that have basements.
When you dig you hit limestone and water.

No Cobber Pdeys here
but if you are here for our hurricane season- there is always a good hurricane party to attend
It helps to steady the nerves - or so I am told

The region I am in has been spared....this TC is now expected to cross the coast this evening. Though we are not in her path, we are copping a lot of rain and all access to and from the region has been cut off.

Ah well....back to the cyclone party....
