My grandfather just gave me part of his collection which id 10 boxes full of coins he has collected over about 60 years. I am sure I will need some help figuring out what alot of these are. he has 2 full boxes of nothing but dansco albums and I am enclosing a picture of one of the boxes to show how he saved his coins (nothing special just in medicine bottles) the box I took the picture off looks to be new quarters and SBA dollars and stuff like that. I am getting ready to search for errors in all these quarters and see what I can find, but be looking for more posts from this collection because I will need the knowledge of the community to help me with this endeavor

Looks like you have your work cut out for you Brian. I'm sure you will find some very interesting coins in all that collection. Your Granddad must have been quite a man to set aside such a deposit.
Rest in Peace

Bryan, Unfortunately, neither of my Granddads were collectors, so no coins were passed down. My paternal Grandfather was a real FDR supporter however, and I do have some nice FDR campaign bottons in another of my many collections.

I evny you for your new coins. Not only are they great for a coin collector, but they must have a lot of personal meaning also.

Yes this is the coins I was never allowed to touch when I was a kid, he would be sorting them out or puttingthem in albums and all I could do was sit and watch him (which was hard because I was a hands on kind of kid). I never thought he would choose me to give this collection to, he couldnt stand to get rid of all of it so he just gave me about half of what he had. he said he didnt know what was in any of the boxes so I would have to go through it. he never bought anything as far as I know, he just collected stuff out of circulation so I kind of doubt there will be that one coin I can retire on (oh wait I dont work now)or anything, but alot of sentimental value none the less.

To fuel your budding darkside interests and help you figure out just what it is you've got there, nothing can go past acquiring your own copy of the Krause catalogue.

I know, I know, they're darned expensive, but I'm sure if you get to know your local dealer (or one of the friendly dealers on this forum) they'd be happy to either give you a discount or sell you their current copy second-hand the next time they upgrade. You'd be mainly interested in using it to help ID your coins, rather than getting up-to-the-minute prices, so an older edition should be adequate. I've only upgraded my Krause books every seven years or so.

10 Full boxes of coins....about half of his collection....Wow!

My grandfathers didn't have two pennies to rub together and didn't even live to see my birth. But I have always imagined leaving my collection to a grandchild but so far my kids are childless by choice. Humph!
So what I really would like to know, Bryan, is how does it make you feel to receive that collection?
