Recent auction purchase. These are seller's photos and I don't have the coin in hand. Thoughts on grade appreciated. Thanks.

I appreciate your thoughts. Just what I was thinking, but a good deal for $40! When she arrives, I can get a better look.

Totally worth it for $40. That's a steal.

AU-58. Signs of light circulation.

the surfaces are so scratched up that I can't tell if there is circulation wear. i'll call it UNC details. even at AU something with a details designation $40 would still be a great buy

was it listed as an R78 or did you snag it and someone messed up?

I really appreciate your time and attention on this coin. Expect it in hand in the next day or two.

This was one of two coins in an auction lot that also included a MS 1880-O (no variety determined by photos.) I won the two coins for $80 including fees, thus my $40 valuation for this one.

There were dozens of Morgan dollar lots in the auction. I bid on this one and one other that had a MS 1900-O/CC. Someone else must have noticed that one and the bidding went up and up. When I hit $180 (on a lot that was expected to bring $50-100,) the auctioneer decided to pause for closer inspection. That's when I decided to exit the auction and the coin eventually sold for $220 - still a great bargain.
