Personally I believe these "stripes" are from something (oil?) on the rollers used to roll out the strips before stamping out the blanks.

I don't see how improperly mixed alloys would be so straight, consistent, and parallel.

This seem to be counting machine roller. Those machine has ruber rolls. The production line do not has rubbers rolls.

The reverse might be coin counting rubber, but I don't think the obverse is, it's to straight. It was on the planchet before the coin was minted.

I will like to see this coin after an Ketone (acetone bath). I am skeptical of the Observe been before due to the fact is no touch of the rim. Interesting.

That's part of the reason I think the "surface contamination" occurred before the strike and before the proto-rim was applied in the upsetting mill.

It does seem like the line touches both rims albeit faintly.

Thanks Coinhi.
I know it's not possible, but would be interesting if we could determine what the dark matter was made of or if it might just be discoloration.

Faintly touching the rim could confirm that it happened before the strike and was pushed up by the upsetting mill.

The lines are even faintly visible in the area between the bust and the rim which, to me, indicates before the strike.
If they occurred after the strike, it doesn't seem like the lines would reach down into this area without causing damage to the bust or rim.

Thanks for the responses.

Thanks P55, I am "in-line" with your conclusions. It would seem to have been there pre-strike.
