Is This 1964 Canada Nickel Steel? - Coin Community Forum

itsonlymoney Valued Member United States 142 Posts	Posted 11/14/2023 10:19 am Found this 1964 Canada nickel, Nothing out of ordinary but it sticks to a magnet. I look them up and they are supposed to be made of nickel like the USA. NON MAGNETIC. IS THIS MINTED ON STEEL PLANCHET? Report this Post to the Staff

kbbpll Pillar of the Community United States 4233 Posts	Posted 11/14/2023 11:27 am I believe the answer is that the Canadian 1964 5c is 100% nickel (or close to it), which is magnetic. The US nickel is 25% nickel and 75% copper; the alloy is not magnetic at room temperature. Report this Post to the Staff

They're made of a cupronickel alloy - 75% copper, 25% nickel. Pure nickel is magnetic; cupronickel is not.
