American Silver Eagles - Why Do The Designer's Initials Only Appear On Some?

barryg Pillar of the Community United States 5272 Posts	Posted 11/19/2023 4:50 pm I'm not a regular collector of American Silver Eagles, but I have picked up some of the special versions offered by the mint in recent years (reverse proofs, etc.). Does anybody know why some have the "AW" designer's initial and others don't, even from the same year? For example: Or was this something that just happened in 2021? Gilly Pillar of the Community United States 597 Posts	Posted 11/19/2023 4:59 pm The design changed in 2021. The type 1 doesn't have the AW, that changed with the type 2 in the second half of the year. If you look you'll see the reverse design is radically different between them, but the obverse was more of a refresh of the same design.
