Can't get a good feel from these photos if it was cleaned or not. It is an AU coin.

For my part and the person who sold it to me and brought it to Spain from USA, I can guarantee 100x100 that none of us have cleaned the coin, I do not clean coins that are more than 40 years old, and he does not clean anything, be it contemporary or old... .

I'll say AU. There's some light circulation wear on the high points.

I'll go with AU - the photos do not show the surfaces well enough to judge if they are original or cleaned.

Be careful with your choice of adjectives when writing to a group of numismatists. Very Good (VG) is a technical grade that represents a high degree of circulation wear. Next time use something like 'well preserved'.

What a shame... those who cleaned could at least have done better.

I agree about the AU grade but what are you seeing in the coin that tells you its cleaned/polished? I'm trying to learn what to look for in halfs.

Without a doubt cleaned/polished.

What a shame...it was my best Kennedy, I'll talk to the person who gave it to me but I'm sure he wouldn't know anything about it, nor would he have noticed. Do I lose anything if I clean it better now? Or is it better to leave like this?

keep in mind the coin is 50 years old. it has passed through multiple hands prior to yours. anything could have happened prior to that.

we understand you like to clean certain coins. just keep in mind there are modern coins can have a decent value. anytime you touch the surfaces of a coin you kill its value and collectability. before cleaning anything do you research to ensure it is not one of those and if you are unsure don't touch it
