I have what appears to be a mint error that pressed the legs of the eagle and arrow bundle flat while maintaining the profile. No other significant signs of wear on the coin. Due to pixel density I did not show the entire coin. Is this a known error? I found nothing similar to this in my searches.

Looks like it is just worn in that location, maybe a high area.

Looks like circulation wear on that area.

Note: It is a 1979 coin and I mistated regarding wear. The coin has no appreciable wear. The flat area is not wear or damage from outside the mint. Not yet sent for grading.

I have about 50 SBAs and several with noticeable wear, but none like this. The feathers seem unaffected by it. I was thinking grease on the die when struck. If normal wear I would normally expect it to be more uniform in other areas of the coin. I realize the picture is not the same as looking at the coin directly .

Do not send it in for grading. It's going to cost way more than what the coin is worth.

I think an in-focus picture of the whole reverse might help to answer the question.

This aera of the coins it is most polish by the circulation. No grease here or other thinks then deteriorated coin ffrom circulation.

Evil Texan, Full coin photo front and back please. My first thought is Struck Through Grease. Not worth sending in. John1

Definitely not worth grading. To me it's a spender. to the CCF!

Depending on how coins are handled, they can exhibit strange wear patterns. Such as a pocket piece. This one is a spender

Appears to be wear in a specific area of the coin. It would help with a full coin picture. Coin not worth cost of slabbing.

Hondo, I believe that Silviosi is saying polished by circulation, meaning worn. Not that the die was over-polished. I could be wrong, though.
Personally, I see a lot of dings in the field that suggest circulation wear.

BRAND catch my meaning. I didn't want to use the term PMD which it is so large meaning. I use polished by circulation to spot the most vulnerable part of the design when is past from hand to hand or frote with other coins.
