I know of 15 different 2010 Loons and heard about 2 more.
I find the designation of Large/Small beads very confusing because the bead size is not obvious and because they do not describe the full set of varieties.
Using "A to/between" or "I to/between" gives a better identification, imo.
Also, PL and SP dies are quite different from BS having different bead count and different fonts and legends.
Here is my list:
2010 Loon BS: A between beads (small beads), beads from D to A - 30, distance D to A - 15mm. It is the same obverse that was used in 2006-2009
2010 Loon PL, SP: A to bead (large beads), beads from D to A - 29, distance D to A - 14mm. It is the same obverse that was used in 2006-2009
2010 Loon PL, SP, Proof: A between beads (small beads), beads from D to A - 31, distance D to A - 15mm. The obverse is specific for 2010
2010 Olympic BS, PL: both I and A point to bead, beads from D to A - 29.5, distance D to A - 14.7mm. The diff between BS and PL are in finish and rim width only.
I heard of 2010 Olympic PL with A between beads (small beads), but I've never seen a good photo of one.
2010 Olympic NBU/PL coloured nickel and Proof coloured silver
Navy: BS and gold-plated. Same obverse
Saskatchewan: BS and gold-plated. Same obverse
Northern Harrier: SP
I have not seen 2010 Loon business strike with A to bead (large bead). All examples I have seen on
ebay and in online stores turned out to be PL coins.
There is an easy check for that -
RCM logo is centered above a bead on BS and it points between beads on all PL strikes.
