I encountered this beastie in my usual $20 of nickels. On the obverse, there is a long double rim near the date, stepped like a collar clash. What confused me a bit is the reverse. In the 180 degree opposite position, there is another thinner fingernail edge. So is this a collar clash, a partial collar, was the planchet sitting vertically cocked in the collar, or what? I know that collar clashes are more common on the hammer die, but can also happen on the anvil die. Do they sometimes happen at the same time, or is this another phenomenon?
funny how they are 180 degrees apart from each other. is it possible that it was tilted? maybe but just a tiny bit. but also as mentioned possible rim finning going on here.
