It's odd that the steps are barely there.

John, when I unpacked these coins, I immediately had a reaction that this nickel had been cleaned. Is this the sort of super-gleam that an MS70 cleaned coin would have? Is it possible that it was buffed or rubbed?

The lower edge of Monticello gave me some concern. Is that well preserved die polishing, or polishing of the coin?

No immediate evidence of buffing or whizzing.

Brandmeister,
When you say MS70 cleaned coin do you mean the product or the grade? Does not look tampered with but might just be the characteristics of the coin? Nickels are not my area.

my first thought was that the coin appears to have altered surfaces. at first I thought it might have been whizzed looking at the hairlines on obv left field however they are not crossing any lettering or devices so I'm with coinfrog on that. something just doesn't look right to me.
