Since I was "called out" by applesauced

for not posting my annual list in a timely manner...I'm playing a bit of catch up!
For 2024, the Government of Canada has again published its list of "Anniversaries of Significance in Canada"
- 25th anniversary of the creation of Nunavut
- 25th anniversary of the coming into force of the Ottawa Treaty banning landmines
- 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
- 75th anniversary of the first non-stop trans-Canada flight
- 75th anniversary of Newfoundland and Labrador joining Confederation
- 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force
- 100th anniversary of the Canadian Copyright Act
- 125th anniversary of Treaty 8
- 150th anniversary of Treaty 4
- 150th anniversary of the birth of author and novelist, Lucy Maud Montgomery
- 150th anniversary of the introduction of the secret ballot
- 250th anniversary of the passage of the Quebec Act
Each of the anniversaries listed on the web site includes a brief statement of its significance within Canadian history.
King Charles III is not listed - his reign is not yet the thing of major anniversaries - but it seems very likely that multiple commemorative coins will be issued marking his ascension/coronation even though they each happened prior to 2024. I can see a Special Edition silver dollar issued for Charles III, but I imagine the $20 denomination seeing most of the action.
Some of the anniversaries listed seem destined for commemoration via a coin, while others - to me - fall short.
I can see the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Air Force being marked by circulation coins as well as a silver dollar - paralleling the 2010 issues for the Canadian Navy Centennial.
Considering 2023's Kathleen "Kit" Coleman SD, I can see the Mint going with another female author theme for one of its 2024 SDs. Because of that, I think an SD honoring Lucy Maud Montgomery is a definite possibility.
Coins commemorating the Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador anniversaries all seem possible to me, but I don't think they'll be seen on a silver dollar.
The Secret Ballot anniversary seems like a good topic for a circulating commemorative considering its place in the consciousness of the Canadian public.
I think the First Nations Treaty anniversaries will be passed over numismatically, but that Canada's First Nations heritage will be celebrated on multiple silver and gold coins. I also don't think the landmines treaty, Copyright Act or Quebec Act will make it on to coins because they don't have mainstream popularity, but anything is possible!
Lastly, the NATO and First Trans-Canada flight anniversaries have potential, but on a coin other than a SD.
Just my thoughts, of course, no guarantees offered! The picture will start to become clear soon!
