I am looking for a reasonable starter coin scope in the $20-40 range. Nothing fancy.
Most coin scopes seem to come with an LED screen, but I find that to be rather unnecessary since I have an iPad. Also, I take pictures directly onto the iPad so that I can post-process for direct forum posting. It would be nice to have WiFi or Bluetooth integration, but it isn't a deal breaker to have a USB cable connecting the scope and iPad.
What I definitely need is a scope that can image the small features associated with doubled dies and other coin varieties. Something that can produce a crisp image of the split serifs on a letter, or the doubling lines on a numeral. I don't need to image the whole coin, I have a macro lens just for that purpose. The scope also needs sufficient illumination, although I imagine that most scopes have built-in lights.
Can anyone recommend a decent scope?
