I was told by a local collector to remove the new Lincolns from the shrink wrap they came in if I were to store them for the next generation. Has anyone got an opinion on this premise? I suppose he feels the shrink wrap may have pvc in it. Any info would be appreciated. nlp

Personally, I would remove any original packaging. I open almost all my rolls and move them to tubes for long-term storage. I also put tape around the lid and put them in ziplocks with a dessicant pack. The couple of exceptions I have I was able to fit the whole roll, wrapper and all, into a tube.....i.e. my 2009P Hodgenville roll with a cancelled stamp.

Exactly what I've been doing with rolls for a really long time.

What kind of tubes do you buy so that the wrapper fits in with the tube? Thanks

Remove the coins from the wrapper entirely and put coins directly in the plastic tubes. Hold your breath as you put the coins in as to not trap moisture in the tube.

Not sure if that was ment to be a funny but it was. As already explained, take them out and place the coins in the plastic rolls for cents. HOWEVER, now that you bring that up, it may be a pretty good idea to prove the coins have never been circulated. You could put the entire roll, plastic and all in a Nickel plastic roll. Don't know if they would fit but I'll have to try that. Sounds like something that may work.

Just regular square tubes, not sure the brand, I buy them from valley coin. For it to fit, the roll has to be a REALLY tight one. Some rolls just can't fit, usually if they are not machine wrapped.

Of coures if you are worried about damaging the coins by cutting off the shrink wrap, you could just melt if off with a Butane Torch. Just kidding. Don't try that.
