Poll Question
There is much talk about buying and having gold

As you read articles that are available around the world there are different opinions as to what is the best gold coin to have.

One recent article I read said that the Austrian Philharmonic out sells all other gold coins

Which is your favorite and why?
each catagory includes fractionals (1/10 1/25/ 1/20 1/4 1/2 etc.)

Poll Choices
 American Eagle(s)
 Canadian Maple Leaf
 Austrian Philharmonic
 Australian Kangaroos (includes nuggets)
 China Gold Pandas
 Krugerrand Gold Coins
 Euro Gold Coins
 Other

If I could afford to invest in gold it would be American Eagles.

All of the above... at as close to spot(w shipping!) as possible.

Any world recognized, coin, round, bar for other... Sovereigns and halfs included.

Do not consider numismatic value when investing in pms for hard times... numismatic value evaporates first.

ibgolden is dead on. If this is for investment purpose only, it does not matter the product. Gold is gold is gold and what you pay is all that counts. For me it is typically bullion.

I also heard that Phils can be bought at any Austrian bank for a low premium... can anyone confirm this?

I chose the Australian Kangaroos simply because of the four .9999 the Austrian Philharmonic is the same with four .9999 I go with the most purety and thats the best way to go period. Analysts say that gold will be $2011 by 2011 time will tell

Chose American Eagles for a couple reasons specific to me I guess.
I've never bought a "precious metal" in coin form for a future investment short or long term in that sense or at that level in bulk where it would really matter.
I would never buy an Eagle.....wait six months and then sell at a nice profit and walk away counting my dollars with a smile. I just don't think that way at all.
It is "only" numismatic value for me as to why I bought it in the first place......and as mentioned, that may be the first thing to go when it boils down to it in dark times.....but that's okay, because my collection isn't for "dark times". It is evolved from my Great Grandparents, my Grand Parents, my Parents, ME, and then to family who can/will appreciate it for whatever it is at that time and long after me.....and that's really it.
The Gold "I" have, is just to enhance my collection.......and Gold is sure purty !....and whether it goes up or down through the decades makes little difference in the appreciation for it to me.
In fact, I wish Gold would take a dive down to about $219.00 an ounce for 8 or 10 years to let me afford to buy more of it !
Of course it makes me feel good to know that I have "precious valuable coins" in my collection !!....That's a big part of why I purchased them of course....But I guess it's just the "future profit" that I couldn't care less about !
I have no experience in other World Gold coins......I've seen some beauties however.....and maybe someday I'll pursue some of those...but for now Eagles and Buff's and a few Gold Commem's are quite fulfulling for me !....

Really, it's a matter of taste and what your goals are that determine what you collect. I'm thinking a 20 year term 'till I retire. In the mean time you can get really beautiful coins... like French angels and roosters, and other world circulation gold at darn near spot(from time to time). Maybe I will never part with them...

And the Canadian Gold Maples went from three to four nines(I don't recall the change year, but the RCM was actually the first to go four nines)... with experimental five nine varities for sale as well.

... and don't bring up the dying thing. I ain't leavin' if I can't take a buncha stuff with me!

I plan on creating a "treasure hunt" just before I die !....
I will draw up a very complex map, with dangers along the way, something like Indiana Jones or something ! So, whatever family member wants my "coins", will have to jump through some serious hoops to get them !......
.............. .......
