What is this clad ? It's in a coin lot and I know there is 1971D Silvers but don't think this is but the lines on it are confusing me and it's the only pic I have.

weight of the coin would be the best test for a 40% silver 1971-D
as stated below.

The weight is a reliable indicator of 40% silver vs. cupronickel clad. 11.5g for silver clad, 11.34g for cupronickel clad.

Those might be roller lines. What does the reverse look like? Roller lines are often on both sides, in the exact same direction.

Roller lines would not indicate the composition of the coin.

To the best of my knowledge: The Philadelphia and Denver Mint stopped making 40% silver Kennedy half dollars in 1970. The only 40% silver Kennedy coins minted after that point were special proof and business strike coins from the San Francisco mint (which also made CN clad proof coins as well).

A 1971-D half dollar is 99.9999% likely to be a normal clad cupronickel coin. Denver produced millions of them.

What Tacc said is correct. Any coin can exhibit roller lines, regardless of composition. All it means is that the rollers that stretched the coin metal to the correct thickness were dirty or worn, and they left grooves in the metal.

If you ever run across one in person, the edge is a good start, and then the tissue test:

40% silver halves reflect differently through a single ply of tissue than cupronickel clad coins.
