This series of Large Cents was awful. The copper corroded on the trip from England. Here's my 1809 obverse that looks a bit better but I paid about $200.

cipster that's nice, a lot of large cents are badly corroded, I didn't want to spend a ton of money on one I figured this one was ok even with the bad corrosion.

@Matthew23 .... Having long collected early coppers, I humbly suggest that you take time to seek out better grade pieces, akin to Cipster's. Looking at your other coppers' posts, I get the impression, perhaps incorrect, that you're overly anxious to buy problem coins, just to acquire a run of the early dates. If so, a matching G-VG set of problem-free coppers will be something you' can pursue and appreciate for decades to come.

I recently attended a show with two coin buddies. One of them purchased a comparable, yet slightly better 1809 for $200. Collectors, overly anxious to fill album holes, will eventually regret owning corroded pieces. These better pieces at reasonable prices are out there, waiting to be found. I returned home, empty-handed from that show. Had I spotted my friend's purchase, I'd have grabbed it at that price. While you are correct about the 1809's being a better date, there are many such problem ones out there. To me, the hunt is part of the fun, and to my experience, shows tend to be the best hunting grounds .... just this oldtimer's take, for what it's worth.

Exoguy I understand what you're saying the ones I have posted recently have been bought with Christmas money so that helps, this is actually my second time purchasing this set, I don't have the funds to say purchase a straight grade earlier cent, the price on those are so extremely high, unfortunately the coin shop I go to is closing up, and there are 3 other ones but one really just deals on gold and silver, the other one is very rude and overpriced, and the 3rd one doesn't know what he's doing, I have a guy I deal with, that's sells me some stuff at good prices, and for the coin shows there is only one around here that runs 3 to 4 times a year, that's why I mainly deal in ebay right now.

Nice pick up. It takes deep pockets to get them better than this.
