Quote: Wow 1983, Do you has a good insurance LOL. Thats beaker from the muppets, a older tv show popular in 1983. Id probably start with the freeze and hammer approach since that has been proven to work. You can always try acetone but thats a thick block and not like the acrylic nails. Heres a list of some plastics acetone works on (or doesn't) for its usage. Cast acrylic might dissolve. https://www.millerplastics.com/how-...in-plastics/

methylene chloride, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, cellusolve and methyl ethyl ketone
The Lucite it is an acrylic polimer. Before try others I will go with acetone. I has an 20$ gold on Lucite and I took out and I has now in MS 66. Took little more then one month in acetone but was worth.

Here's a solution. Send it to me, I'll pay full postage plus fifty cents. Then I'll post a video of me throwing this stupid thing into Lake Michigan.
Seriious offer, I am not kidding.

@ Make: Could be fuzzy now, but maybe the clouds will dispersed.

Coinfrog and everyone - He already knows its not a valuable coin and says he has 5 coins in lucite so thats why I suggested to go ahead and try the freeze and hammer method which works right away but can be messy. Yes the acetone can work but silviosi even just confirmed as I thought that it would take awihle, not like those acrylic nails. A month! It is good to know sometimes by others what works and what doesn't, so those like dearborn don't further blow themselves up later experimenting like beaker above

My first try wil be to remove most of the Lucite with a hacksaw as close to the coin as I can I'll be able to see through and where I'm cutting then around the outside diameter of the edge till just a bit away, then soak it and see if it will split in 2,maybe leave the bottom half a bit thick so I can put it in a vise,I'll try a few thing I have a bunch of cheap penny ones here to experiment with.

When you start sawing it will melt from the heat and gum up the blade into a gooey mess. Acetone does nothing to acrylic.
