I found a 1973 penny that is very lightly textured. It weighs 3.05 g
Why is it like this?

To CCF! Looks like acid or heat damage. Either way, it's PMD and not an error.

I'm thinking acid exposure. Seen similar before, even experimented with a common cent and came up with the same look.

I agree with acid damage. Heat damage would not lessen the weight.
