Very nice, Dearborn!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Thanks!! an event that happens only once in a persons lifetime if they live long enough or they were born in a 00 year - such as 2000 - then the beddian is immediate (or twice if they live to be 100.. lol)

This year is it for me

a very attractive specimen, with only the slightest rubbing on emu's feathers, the highest areas of the kangaroo's body (rev), and bit more on Lizzie's shoulder (obv).
Full luster, fields reasonably clean.
Better struck than most examples, with fully struck up details on Lizzie's ear.

These coins were made from .500 silver quaternary alloy, the other metals being copper 40%, zinc 5% and nickel 5% - (to harden the alloy). The blanks were blanched in acid (to enrich the silver in the surface), then rinsed before being rimmed into planchets.

Generally, quaternary alloy coins with enriched silver surface showed signs of darkening as they developed wear in circulation, exposing the un enriched alloy underneath.

This coin shown none of that sort of problem.

Thanks John, that shadow would be the edge of the bust device. The lighting is from the north in this image.

@dearborn, your should not restrict yourself to a single 1962 from each country. You should add a few more, especially all the silver ones. Australia, like Canada, had multiple circulating silver coins for the year 1962.

Also, I am sorry that I missed my own Beddian birthday a number of years ago, being ignorant of the concept.

Within the bust truncation shadow line (raised above the field) you will find the incuse initials "MG" (Mary Gillick) - the obverse designer of the coin.
