Thought I'd share this coin I purchased awhile back. The dealer stated "Struck thru cloth". This looks to be struck thru thread or string, not cloth. It's evident on the cheek.

Interesting, it's amazing how much damage can be done to a coins surface by thread or string at the time of minting. I've seen coins that were completely covered on one side by the criss-cross pattern of fabric that covered the planchet at the time of strike. Sometimes a string where you can actually see the twisting fibers of the thread that made it, like a miniature rope. I agree here that the "cloth" was extremely deteriorated by the time this happened to the coin. ~ Jim

Hmmm. What's the expression I'm looking for?

Oh, yeah.

That's the one.

Yeah Baby! Isn't that cool? it's like the difference between a brockage error and a first strike reverse brockage. This really underlines the different degree's that an error can obtain. It's definitely a fact that all errors are not created equal. ~ Jim

Thanks Super! Thanks Jim!
Some smooth spots here and there but you can see the weave pattern of the cloth. Bought this guy raw and sent him in to PCGS. They gave it an MS62

I have a proof Presidential Gold Dollar that has some sort of thread on the Sanded/satin part but it is minor, would this be called an error? Thanks

Yes. It would be more than likely a "struck thru thread" error.
