I've done some searching here but I can't find an exact ID for this coin. I don't know where it came from nor do I even know if it's genuine or not. Assuming it is, I've only managed to figure out that the reverse legend is GENIO IMPERATORIS. I'm not really able to figure out anything else I'm guessing because I'm not very familiar with these coins or markings.

Is this coin genuine? If so, do you know who is pictured and what the obverse legend is? Also, the green patina - is it bad?

Galerius. The legends are IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG / GENIO IMP-ERATORIS but the mintmark is not there. It could be any of these: https://numismatics.org/ocre/result...lltext:*ORIS

There seems to be a letter over an altar (or a star) in the left field and a letter in the right field, but it doesn't seem to match anything. Something like this https://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.6.anch.119a

It looks like a cast fake to me. The details are too soft to be due to wear.

but I don't know if it's a rare enough type to be worth faking, and it could plausibly be environmental damage, I think. I suspect to a large extent the softness is a trick of the lighting.

Yes it could easily be fake. If you're selling to tourists you can copy any coin, as they don't know what's rare and what isn't. But sometimes common real coins are treated very badly by the finders, who clean them with acid. They're so cheap it's not any more difficult to find them than casting copies. The edge might give it away (if there's a seam).

The green isn't a problem. If it's not easy to remove with acetone it might even suggest authenticity.
