Am I looking at a medium letters or large letters reverse on this 1830? The positions of the letters suggests one thing but the size of them another.

Looks like large letters to me, based on Heritage images.

@Kbbpll is correct. You have a 'Large letters' reverse.

The best way to distinguish the N-6 (Med. letters) from other 1830 varieties is to look at the spacing at the bottom of the letters 'TATE' in 'STATES'. In N-6 the spacing is larger.

This is a photo of the N-6 in my collection, and a comparison of the reverse of N-6 with a large Letter variety.
