Hi there everyone, I am new to the forums and new to collecting. Been collecting on and off for a few years now, just recently heard about the Henning nickels. I believe I came across a 1953 but its a D. My question is... How do you know it is or not ? The odd thing is that it weighs 5.06 grams. I just recently bought another scale to make sure I am not losing my mind. They both say 5.06 grams. Everything I read says 1953 are the most rare of the bunch, so little info is out there. TIA

5.06 g is well within tolerance for a normal nickel. The Henning nickels came in heavier — was it 5.4 g?

Also, the D mintmark on your coin is a giveaway it is genuine, plus the dot near the Monticello dome is not in the right place for a Henning.

The 1953 Henning nickels do not have a D mint mark. Also, the lower left leg of the R in PLURIBUS is looped/holed.
Please post a picture of the reverse of your coin.

That's a really good article on Henning nickels.

1% is within U.S. Mint tolerances for coinage. But if you are paying attention to the details, you are on the right track! =)

@PowerSergNY Need a good picture of the reverse, please. That would show/or not, most of the die marks. Does not appear to be a Henning nickel.
