PCGS - President's Day meets Mint Error Monday with this Washington quarter. Started as a clad dime, it was overstruck twice by 1976-S Bicentennial Quarter dies, rotating 100 degrees between strikes. No mint errors are the same, but this one pushes rarity to another level. In PCGS PR67CAM, it sold for $9,000 in 2023.

yep! very nice error.

I have a quarter struck on Dime stock (but quarter sized planchet) but not quite the same as this wonderful error.

I adore bicentennials and I even own bicentennial proof mint error coins, but I guess I will be the dissenting opinion here. A coin that got stuck in the machine and smashed just doesn't rate as a $9000 coin for me.

Interesting how the bottom of the neck is his nose and mouth from the previous strike.
