Hello, I am thinking of buying world coins on ebay. I am not very familiar with world coins, and I don't want to buy not knowing if it is a good deal or not. Would you reccomend any websites? Or personal suggestions? If I was picking (A) country I would say Austrailia is what I am currently looking at the most. Also, are there any decent online price guides for this country? Thank You!!
Rest in Peace

No price guides in mind, but I would suggest a forum member -- Bigfella -- as a good contact. I have purchased from him, and he is quite helpful.

Not sure of any online price guides.

ebay and Bigfella is a good place to start. I might be able to help aswell.

It does really depend on what exactly you want to collect eg: Australia pennies or decimal $1 coins.

Opportunities are endless.

Did you have anything in mind?

ebay Australia has lots of coins (usually @ 4 or 5 thousand), and you can see the prices do vary.
Off line you can get a book, The pocket guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes 13th Edition by Greg MCDonald. It's worth the 25 dollars Australian (less than $20 US). This is the most up to date Australian guide.
If your after common circulating coins let me know and we can do a swap for some common USA circulating coins I'm after.

I'm sure you will get the help you need from our members.

I'm moving this topic to the World Coins section as I think you'll get a better response there.

Collecting is fun and to keep it that way I would suggest reading up on the series BEFORE you start spending a lot of money. I think it was Aaron Feldman that said "Buy the book BEFORE the coin". His advice still applies. Start with a general guide book and then as you find a specific country or series that interests you focus. There are very detailed books and guides on most series. That way you can find "rarities" that the uninformed overlook.
