I found these in one of the jars my grandfather gave me and I have no idea what they are but I am sure someone here does. All I know is the dates, the one with the hole is 1929, and the other one is 1948 Edited by Bryan1315 03/30/2006 01:27 am

Well I am officially a "Darksider" I have so many coins here from other countries I dont know where to start. Maybe I can just take a picture of a bunch of them and do it that way because it will take 100 or so posts doing it 1 at a time. So everyone get ready!

here are a few I thought looked interesting mostly because of the dates but some for the shape. there are 100's of these things and I am not gonna flood the forum with all of them

Hey Bryan, good to see you getting into the whole darkside thing!
Let's see. In your first post, the first one is Belgium, 25 centimes 1929 (French version - the Belgians issued separate coinages in French and Dutch languages), the second is a British florin (two shillings) 1948.
In your third post, you've got: Newfoundland 1 cent 1898 (but you probably figured that one out!); Philippines (US colony) 1 centavo, 1912 I think; Netherlands 2½ cents, looks like the 1880's; Netherlands Antilles (Dutch colonies in the Caribbean) 5 cents 1971; German Empire 2 pfennig (can't read the date, but it's pre-1877); Republic of China (pre-WWII) 10 cash, year 25 of the Republic (1936 AD, KM#Y 347) with a model of an ancient Chinese "spade coin" in the design.

Sap, the German one I actually think is a Austrian 2 heller.
What do you think?

KLD: Nope, it's German. I just double-checked by cut-and-pasting the graphic with the reverse into my graphics program, flipped it right-way-up so I could read it and zoomed in - it says "Deutsches Reich 1873 2 Pfennig".

Wow, just looked that German one up in the Catalogue. Doing the same graphics thing with the eagle side, I can see the mintmark is eithter C or G. Either way, it's one of the scarcer varieties, worth more than just a few bucks even in worn-flat condition. Great find, Bryan!

Sorry about that. That's sure a C mintmark, but 1875 ones aren't nearly as valuable. Still a neat coin, though! "C" was the mark for the Frankfurt mint, which only operated until 1879.

yeah I figured it being a 1875 would drop the price of it, thats just the way my luck always goes. I am getting ready to scan a few more so please check back on this thread because I would never be able to figure these things out. I know alot of them are German because of the pfenning on the coin but besides that and the date thats all I know, but there are alot from Panama also. There are a few that I have no idea where they came from, got some sort of elk or something on the front but all different sizes, anyhow you will see them when I get them scanned. Thanks again for your help

I have a handfull more to scan once these last ones are taken care of. there were 2 coffee jars full of foreign coins so theres a bunch of them, some are duplicates with just different dates. I am just trying to find out what they are, trying not to scan duplicates but one may fall in the mix by mistake a time or two and if it does I appologize in advance
