Hi folks. Looking for some advice on how to deal with the CBSA to get a break on the fees.
I've had packages opened in the past, but never got a bill for them before. I did some digging before I started this thread, here's what I've come up with from a Pacificoin thread.
Slabs may be taxed. It's all totally random on what does get taxed. HS# for future use: 9705.29.0000, Collections and collectors' pieces of numismatic interest: may be the saving grace.
Anyone have an experience with the B2G adjustment form?
Any key words or phrases to use when filling it out? I can't begin the process until I pick up the package to see the break down. In CP style, they are a day late with the notice left at the door, but tracking says they dropped it off already.
Thanks for any hints. "We are poor little lambs...who have lost our way...Baa...Baa...Baa"

Any items from Heritage, Stacks, Spinks uses UPS or Fed Ex you are stuck with all kinds of fees unless you can prove the coin is .999 silver, gold, you can file or ask the courier broker to file under the exempton. Canada Post is hit or miss depending on declaration but is same process

Quote: Canada Post is hit or miss depending on declaration but is same process Thanks john100. I assume you mean CBSA, not CP. Have you gone through "the process"? Just seems a little greedy on their part, for a true gift. I know it's coins, but that's all. I plan on pushing this as far as it can go. For the principle of it. They'll get tired of me complaining and just give it to me to shut me up.

I bought a banknote from a US seller a couple weeks ago and the seller declared it correctly as a banknote but when CBSA assessed it, they called it jewelry.
It didn't bother me as I assume anything I buy from the US has a chance of owing taxes/fees but just found it funny that they assessed it as jewelry.

Items sent by Canada Post depends on value and item listed and CP will collect the GST and duty plus a 10 buck fee or so, some US sellers want the item to buzz through CP and intentionally under declare, rightly or whatever. The big US auction houses uses only Fed ex and UPS and everything is by the books, you will incure GST, broker fees exchange fees, just no way around this

I've noticed since September, anything clearing thru MIssissauga (which is everything) from ebay, is attracting GST/PST regardless of the value of the item....and of course the $9.95 brokerage fee.

Thanks for the feedback. That $9.95 charge seems like a way to pad the payroll. Check 10 boxes an hour...bingo....100 bucks. Scammers I say.

CP has to collect the HST and remit to Receiver General all takes time and paper work 10 bucks is a deal, UPS or Fedex charges about 30 bucks plus a increasing sliding fee as the value increases, either the item is worth having you just have to factor in these costs

CP is not the culprit. CBSA is. They charge the fee, CP employees take all the flak with hands tied. The other couriers won't be paying me any visits, so I'm good. To get to the end, I paid, happily in the end, and really don't need the hassle to push it. Learned a lesson or 2 for the future though.
