A pair of them! I got some REALLY nice BU OBW soild rolls from my local dealer, starting to work on them finally. Sadly, he only had one 1968D roll, but it had a few gems!

Check out the strike, die state and full steps on this puppy:

Sorry about the pics on this second coin...it had so much luster it gave me fits. I didn't want to spend time fiddling with my cam settings.

Is the die state good for these? I don't know much about lincolns but are the older ones less detailed than the modern ones?

Excellent question! 1968 was the last year the 1916 master obverse hub was used to make dies. That makes the coins obverse die state tough discern except to an experienced eye. As you can tell, the reverse is EDS.

No grade opinions?

The first one should go 66RD w/o a problem.

The second has a beat up reverse that will keep it below 65, I'd guess MS64RD on #2.

Thad, as expected, more nice coins from you.

I have a "step" question. If there is weakness, does it always show in the middle steps?

Worded another way: Can weakness show on the bottom steps (and at the same time not show in the middle steps)? Or is that *always* wear?

Not much detail on Lincoln's beard. Is that typical for this year?

Yeah it is Gothic. If you see one with detail in the beard i'd be amazed. As Thad has mentioned numerous times about this year, its the last of the 1916 hub so there is lack of alot of detail.

You will never see one with beard detail. If you do see one, it's a fake. The master hub had no detail left in it.
