These are pretty common, but the vast majority seem to have been heavily circulated, so finding one in this high grade isn't particularly easy,

Depicted on the obverse is Bishop Blaise (Blaze), a 4th century Armenian martyr who's the patron saint of woolcombers. The legend translates as, "Our art's founder."

On the reverse is an early version of the coat of arms for the city of Leeds. Note the die crack to the right of the owl.

The edge of this example reads, "PAYABLE IN LONDON LIVERPOOL OR BRISTOL". The flan's a bit undersized at 27.5 mm in diameter.

Cool token L. C., I've had the "hanging sheep" coin on my list for a while!

It's funny how in this hobby, you can be keeping an eye out for something for quite some time, and then all of a sudden what you've been looking for rains down like manna from heaven.

So here's yet another of these I've recently run across, again in far better condition than is typical for this issue. This one is marked on its edge, "PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF RICHARD PALEY". Unlike the other, in this case the planchet is 29.5 mm across, and thus much more commensurate with the size of the dies. This is demonstrative of how lax the specifications were when it came to the production of these late 18th century provincial tokens.

Regarding the suspended sheep in the coat of arms, this represents the Golden Fleece. See: https://www.britnumsoc.org/publicat...BNJ_79_8.pdf for a detailed account of this hallowed symbol.
