I now have the 1976-D cent and am now quite confident that it was etched by one or more acid-impregnated fibers. I'll write it up for Coin World as a cautionary tale.

The article on the 1976-D cent etched by acid-impregnated fibers is now out in the latest online edition of Coin World (March 18).

Nice write-up on this coin. Makes we want to find a genuine struck through string now.

I'm going to 2x2 this one and keep it safe in honor of the individual who went through all the trouble. Cheers.
