Since I am a new member, I cannot e-mail you, but I saw a post you had about an 1883 O Morgan with a die crack. I have one identical to it. Mine would probably grade MS-64/65. What did you ever find out about it? Mine also has the die clash on the reverse. MM

Hi Morganman Welcome to the forum !!! I had posted about this coin but I pulled the post in the hopes of getting better pics. So really I have not found out anything about the coin at this time,, I'm very new to Morgan dollars and my resources for study of them is very limited (this will be remedied soon I hope ) Interesting that you have a twin to my coin !!! My coin will also grade in the 64 range it has very nice luster and a very full strike for an O mint Morgan. It wont take long to reach the number of posts required to email, and I would be very interested in exchanging info on this coin with you !! Thanks Rick

Ok here are the images. This is the crack right above the crude line I made. Image: 83crack.jpg41.11 KB This is the clash both the obverse and the matching reverse where the obverse die hit the reverse one. I wonder if this caused the crack? Interesting. Image: clash.jpg17.97 KB This is just general pic of the obverse to get idea of condition. Image: obverseline.jpg37.33 KB

I would need to see both of your coins in hand to make an assessment. I'll send you my mailing address offline. Mark your coins with a magic marker or lacquer with your initials or something so I can keep them separate; maybe file a notch in the rim. Wouldn't want to mix them up, would we? Fred

Hi Morganman Very cool !!! Does your coin show the two die gouges on the leg of the F in OF ? This pic is not the best work I have done but the gouges are visable as well as the clash. whole reverse Obverse Rick

Tell ya what, Rick. Send me ALL your Morgans in one package. I'll weigh them and see if I can get bullion for them. Fred PS - Seems PCGS is doing the same thing to me - making my good coins into bullion. See my recent 1890CC Morgan post in Coin Grading Practice.

Here is my 1884 O rev. No clash. I also have 4 other 1883 O's with no crack or clash. I wonder how many like the 2 we got there are? I do not these even listed as a VAM. Image: 84-0rev.jpg64.46 KB MM
