I purchased this coin as BU via the net several years ago. When purchasing, the pictures didn't reveal the colors on the obverse. My hopes are that it is just toning. Could you please take a look and post comments as well as your "grade"?

Thank you!

Hard to say from the pictures, but as far as grade it looks at least MS-64.

What could the "colors" be and do they impact value?

Thanks for the help.

Don't touch that coin! The color is toning or spotting and that's a VERY valuable coin. Anything you do will likely hurt the value.

That's a $1,000 coin easy. The "colors" will have a minimal impact on the value of a key date like that one. Unless of course it has a shot at MS65 without the spots but that's a job for NCS.

$1,000 on a 32S?!! I was thinking more along the lines of $400-$500

Jeepers Pelts! Thats a beauty. I agree, nothing can improve it. I like natural toning personally.
Looking great!

Wheezy. What the heck does "Jeepers Pelts" mean...haha.

Glad you like it. My best collection is my Washington quarters. They are all BU like this and most to me appear even better because they all are Blast white. This one to me is "blotchy".

It's a nicer way of swearing ... sort of like Cheese and Rice!

I have a dozen or two Washington's myself that I have not dragged out to photograph yet.
I do believe I have a 1932 S that looks like it came out of your roll.

A choice MS '32-S Washington is worth $1K easy.

Keep it well protected.

It is sitting in my Dansco holder. Should I send it in for grading?

Haha, it appears that you have not looked at the early Washington quarter values lately! The interest in the State Quarter series has also catapulted the values of early Washingtons as more people take an interest in them. This was once a sleeper series with low prices for relatively rare(in MS) coins but no longer. The majority of the pre-1940s exceed $100 in MS63 now with the Big 3(32D, 32S, 36D) close to or exceeding $1000.

I personally would recommend getting it graded. I see nothing that would keep it away from MS64 but if you get a 65, you just hit the jackpot and added several thousand to the value

Heritage sold 3-PCGS MS64's of this issue on March 31st. They went for $718.75 (kinda dark toning, and an NGC 64 went for the same price) to $862.50 (brown toning but looks nice for the grade).

I honestly don't know if this one goes 64 - the marks on the neck sort of draw the eye and PCGS is being really stingy these days. Indeed, I worry about the sharp edges on the existing toning, and the hairlines I see in the right field on the obverse.

The market seems to really prefer these coins to be untoned - the last two white PCGS 63's actually outsold the lower of the 64's at recent Heritage auctions.

I stared at them for a long time and I am convinced they are die polishing lines

I am not seeing any surface problems, just blotchy toning but I have seen very similar toning on a Washington previously
