Was going through some collections I bought some time ago. Whitman wheat cents book 2. Each one had mostly all Gem BU/unc wheats and memorials but they were all toned ruby reds, rose reds, purples, various browns. Some fillers and memorials in collection were similar. This particular 1959 D cent went removed exposed the reverse showing a bright shiny copper Cud or something that never oxidized due to it pressing against the paper.

Anyways. I guess I'm looking for clarification that this is indeed a Cud or retained strike through or something or some sort? In person it looked like a gold nugget on the surface of this penny. The toning in the picture does not do it justice, lots of rich purple and red hues in person.

Does it really carry any premium or value beyond 3 cents?

Looks like something is on the coin. Try giving it a soak in pure acetone and see if it comes off.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but it's more of a raised area and like a nugget of copper laying on top untouched. It could be a lamination but not sure. Didn't think of that. My assumption is its a small cud/lamination or whatever and probably isn't unique and carries little to no premium. I guess I just like to get a variety of expert opinions due to everyone experiencing different things

By definition it's not a Cud. Follow Errer's advice and give it a soak in acetone to see if it comes off.

Cuds always include the rim. Also, please no more photos of your scopes screen, use a memory card in it.

I am going with damage because the D and S are effected differently. I think if it was a lam. or struck through the S would be the same as D.

was this in a whitman album or folder? If a folder is it possible that some of the backing is on the reverse?
