On the obverse is depicted Sir Bevois (Bevis), a romantic hero whose legend and exploits are recounted here: https://historicsouthampton.co.uk/bevis/

I haven't definitively identified the heraldry on the reverse.

This example retains most of its original luster, with the surfaces, especially on the obverse, having taken on an iridescent blue toning (which these photos do somewhat accentuate).

It's marked on its edge, "PAYABLE AT THE OFFICE OF W. TAYLOR R. V. MOODY & Co."

It looks like the coat of arms for the County of Hampshire (where Southampton is located), except that that has the crown and rose in differently colored fields. Maybe a variant or older version?

Nice token btw

Erafjel has it.

R C Bell identifies this token as DH89, and states the reverse is the arms of Hampshire. The token was issued from Walter Taylor's factory in West Gatestreet, Southampton. Bell describes this token as "common".

Bell describes Taylor as a carpenter and says he owned a mill.

From Richard Doty's work on the Soho mint, 168,000 of these halfpennies were struck. Taylor was unhappy with the quality of the first batch, so Boulton sent him some proofs to share with his friends. 150 silver and 84 copper are mentioned. Doty describes Taylor as a brewer.

Allowing for the evolution of shield shapes, it does appear that the escutcheon on the reverse corresponds with that of Hampshire: https://www.heraldry-wiki.com/heral...shire.jj.jpg
