Coin arrived today. I'm pleased. The seller's pictures showed the coin to poor advantage. Nicer in hand.

your in-hand photos are better than the originals. I'm bumping my grade from AU53 to AU55. wish it didnt have that small hit on the jaw. its right in the sweet spot

Agreed, panzaldi, but how often do we see a coin and say "What a beauty (if it only weren't for that scratch, rim ding or cheek mark).

UPDATE: I went to the ANA show in Atlanta last weekend and took the coin into the PCGS booth. Since, according to their own listings, Knob Ear is a distinct separate listed variety and not a sub-variety the rep called it a "mechanical error" in grading and attribution. She took the coin in for resubmission and, if they agree it's a Knob Ear variety, they will reslab it as such at no cost to me other than return shipping. Will report. Fingers crossed, although I'm certain it's a Knob Ear.

Just got notification from PCGS. They admitted their error and are reslabbing it as an 1855 Knob Ear AU53. No charge to me - even return shipping is free.

Just arrived today. No charge from PCGS. Free shipping too. Same serial number as before, but now correctly attributed.
