Bought this coin on ebay recently. I really liked the rainbow toning. It was listed as "MS" I am pretty new to buying these coins so I wondered if anyone can help with an estimated grade? I am wondering if it would be worth sending in for grading? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Hopefully the photos are adequate. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Can't get a good feel for the surface details through all that toning.

Don't know if this helps, but this was the photo they used in the listing on ebay. I was pretty disappointed that it did not look anywhere near as vibrant in person as it did in the listing photo. Not sure it was worth anywhere near the $300 I paid.

$400 - Ouch . Toning can be easily enhanced with a photo editing program. No way to really tell from seller pictures. Seeing you don't like it can you return it?

Marve65 - Thanks for your reply. I thought I had only paid $300 but when I checked again I actually paid $399, so yes nearly $400. I bought it from MorganDealer on ebay, and I don't know what happened to the photo, but it does not look like I expected. Actually, yes I can still return it. I was just trying to figure out if I should?

Quote: I can still return it. I was just trying to figure out if I should? Well realistically, you are the only one who can answer that question. If you like it keep it, but if you feel it was a deceptive picture and you paid too much then at least you have the opportunity to return it.

Luster is a bit disturbed on the high points, but it would be really unfair to call it wear.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my eye is not all that keen on the rainbow toning of this particular coin, - reverse appears nicer than the obverse.

I like the more subtle toning in the first place, really vibrant rainbow toning is over rated and often time suspicious. As for the ebay dealer you purchased it from, they manipulate nearly all of their images. I wouldn't buy anything from them.

I'd return it. The surfaces look quite beat up. The ebay photo you provided is highly manipulated.

MS-63. The ebay photos were altered to enhance the tone colors.

Agree the photos have been manipulated.

It looks MS and likely 63 as noted above. Eye appeal is neutral to negative from my screen. My value estimate is about $300 at retail. I'd feel like a got a great deal for $200. At $400? Not a good purchase.

gschmidtjd, if you can still return it I would. You'll be able to find a better one at a cheaper price.

Agree with everyone else. Also, avoid Morgandealer. Their photos are not accurate and most coins cleaned.

I always like to eyeball any coin in hand first, before I decide to buy.
