I have not looked into this, but wanted to get some other opinions first.
I have a very nice, uncirculated set of franklins that I hand picked over the years. I know I have some FBL's just based on the grading guidelines, but I am no expert.
I was curious though about the grades and thought I could add more value to my collection by having them all slabbed.
Would it be more cost effective to have my local dealer send it in or do this myself?
Also, which grading company would I have a better chance at getting those designations? it probably doesn't matter, but I know some of you might have some conspiracy theories. LOL>
AND if I did have them graded FBL, would it matter if it was an an NGC vs PCGS, vs ANACS slab for more/less inflated value?
your thoughts.. thanks..
sorry I can't get pics at this time. I am still confused over how to get my pics resized and uploaded..

Sounds expensive and a gamble not seeing your coins. I would be selective in what you send in for grading. MS-63, 64 and even 65 coins will be hard pressed to cover grading costs.

How about showing us pictures of some of the select FBL halves to see if any are worthy of slabbing. Any key or better dates? One coin at a time please. It doesn't seem practical to slab the entire set since even high grade examples of some dates don't justify the expense of slabbing.

From what I can see in these photos, most are MS-61-63 with a couple better. You won't get your money back on grading the whole set.

Value on most of these aren't worth the cost of slabbing unless the grade MS-65 or higher.

I think they look great in the Dansco! I have a set as well (it was the second Dansco I completed after the Ike). I would encourage you to just leave them there, as I do not see enough value being added to cover the cost of grading. Whatever you do, you need to be happy and satisfied by the choice.

I wouldn't send these in for grading, simple as that.

Not worth sending them in for grading.
Errers and Varietys.

Thanks for the opinions everyone ! & . I went to my local coin shop and brought this in. The owner looked at the coins and said there were no FBLs. O well. But I was eyeballing an 1883-CC that I might exchange this Franklin set for #128526;. Stay tuned.

FBL is as crazy to determine as FS on the jefferson. I've seen some that there is no way they are FBL and vice versa. as stated they need to be MS65 plus to be worth slabbing and unless you are willing to break the set up you would not get your costs back. Quote: I was eyeballing an 1883-CC that I might exchange this Franklin set the chances an 83CC is going to increase in value way faster than a set of franklins imo depending on its grade however a full set of franklins at MS63 or above is going to have more value than an 83CC unless its at the MS66 level. i'd be careful about that trade. you may be better selling the set and looking for a slabbed 83CC

I would not trade a BU set of Franklins for an 1883-CC Morgan. Unless the Morgan was 65DMPL or better.
