This 1896 Indian cent shows 2 die cracks on the reverse, and there seems to be areas of die chips in parts of the cracks. A die crack seems to be a relatively common occurrence in business strike coins and probably more so in Indian cents. Do these bigger cracks add any value to the coin or is it just a little above common? The lower crack looks like it was going back to the rim and eventually might have made nice Cud.''

Thanks for looking,

Tom

That's a pretty big crack terminating at 3:00 on the reverse
It bet it would make a nice Cud when the die broke!
I don't think there's much value on reverse cracks, other than confirming die pairs for variety collectors.

I think it would still make for a interesting type (die crack) coin for a error collector. Talk about late die state, this one was getting ready to roll over and play dead. ~ Jim

Ooooh. Snap, Crackle, Pop! Not a value-added feature, but pretty darned interesting. I'd buy that one over a similar, but not cracked, coin at the same price.

That is a nice one! One of the first things I check for on IHC is, RPD doubled letters, and CRACKS! I save every crack I run into, (in coins, that is). I like to try and makke a progression line, when there are enough of the same type, IE, the Stats Quarter Series, has a crack at the base of the bust, that runs from the rim, on the left, just below the end of the point of the bust, and across to the ribbon, and down to the rim. Tise would be the max length, but most have not arrived to that extreme, on the ribbon, as yet.
