I was going through my proof sets and mint sets and found these , was there a problem with the 1974 mint mark punch in 1974 or is these an RPM . Personally I think it could be an rpm . I sent pictures to CONECA to see if they know . I checked in VarietyVista and Wexler's but I didn't see anything for a 1974S quarter

Could it be MMS-009?

a nice looking RPM - but VV has no listings for a '74-S RPM.
@John1 - which service does the 'MMS' type of attributions? (I forget)

John1 thanks , so if it would be an MMS-009 ( mint mark stile ) it wouldn't be an RPM ? .

I believe they will refer you to the Variety Vista article on The Mystery of the 1974-S Mint Mark.

The TL;DR is that the mint put a damaged Trumpet Tail mint mark back into use in the mid-1970s. It has a notched corner and thick, blobby features, which (falsely) cause a lot of people to hope that it is a repunched mint mark.

Brandmeister , I think you got it thanks , I should have researched more , I have to make sure I'll mark the proof set as such so I don't go through the same in 10 or 20 years ( if I'm here) .

Glad to have been of service. =) The author of that article, Ray Parkhurst, is rpmsrpms@CCF. In addition to knowing a lot about mint marks, he is also quite the photography expert:

You're correct, of course. No slight to Mr. Brooks was intended.

You obviously have not followed my posts very closely. I'm 50/50 at best.

The "Mr." part may be a bit over the top, we don't need his head getting any bigger.
