Hard to tell from these photos what marks are on the coin. Can this be removed from the holder?

Maybe AU? We'll need better pictures to accurately grade your coin.

Ms65 probably 5FS is what I would put on my 2x2 even with the slight flattening in the middle stairs. A lot of luck would be needed for a TPG to list it as such tho. Then again, I have seen much worse in the last few weeks.

I had guessed at 64/65 myself. The touch on the steps is unfortunate, although the scribe lines theoretically go across for 5FS. It definitely isn't CCF By The Written Rules (TM) Full Steps. I doubt it would pass TPG inspection either, the steps on 1942 nickels were still quite fresh from the Reverse of 1940.

What's really unfortunate is that scratch by the date. I bought the nickel in a flip, but that sure looks like a staple scratch from a 2x2. It looked more like a contact mark in the seller pics.

That mark is unfortunate! I can't tell the luster either from the photos but those are the two things keeping it out of gem category for me. Still, a great coin that would fit perfectly in the Choice+ Set I'm compiling. JK-I got a good one already

I'll bump to MS-64, mark in right obverse field holds it back.

Second set of photos has much better light on the surfaces. I'll go MS64, not FS. Nice looking coin.

new photos are nice. from looking at other 42FS coins its a crap shoot. we have exhaustively discussed the FS topic and TPG's on the site. no one knows what guidelines they are using.

i'll go with MS64
