I like it. EF-40. A bath in Acetone might remove the gunk in the protected areas.

Agree EF-40, perhaps an old cleaning, betting that gunk will clean up.

Excellent, Sannys25! The first coin I purchased through the mail was an 1839 Booby Head back in the early '70s when I was a kid, so I heartily support your acquisition! VerdiCare will help in cleaning it up.

Agreed, EF. An pure acetone soak and Verdi-Care will help your coin.

I have never used Verdicare before. Do you just let it sit on the coin and then wipe it off?

i'd try acetone first. if that doesn't help then verdichem which I believe is the new name of verdicare. it comes with instructions and is easy to use with excellent results plus it preserves the coin. neither one will cause issues with straight grading

EF(40) seems fair. Maybe even EF(45). I love the 1839 Booby Head Cent--both in name and appearance. It's cool to track the small differences in the shape of Liberty's bust itself on these large cents from 1836-1839, as a transition between the "Matron Head" and the "Braided Hair" iterations of the Coronet design.
