I picked up a tube of Maria Theresa's from a friend. He's thrown me great deals in the past and occasionally I have to pay up. This time, it was a tube of MTs. I paid well over what they are selling for on ebay. The only unusual thing about them is that they are individually wrapped from the mint. Based on some of my other buys, and the packaging, I believe they are from the 50's or 60's. I think they are cool, but not sure if I'll recoup my money. Appreciate any thoughts you might have.
to the forum! Interesting acquisition - I've never seen coins from a mint wrapped like that. I'm curious what type of paper was used and what sort of toning may have resulted. If you decide to unwrap one, I'd love to see it!
I have seen american eagles sold wrapped like that by swiss banks in the 60s. The ones I showed here months ago had been sold like that. Perhaps yours were wrapped like that when sold by a bank not the mint directly?
The eagles I found were in mint condition. I say unwrap and check your coins. You may be in luck and those were the better coins the banks or mint sold. Too bad all modern MT thalers are restrites. Silver is more sensitive than gold but in that tube was kept dry they maybe as when wrapped.
