I found this thing about 9 years ago. I have searched and searched but nothing. Photo search always say "it could be this"

I'm noticing a distinct lack of anything on it that looks like actual words (in any language) or pictures. Maybe it's a cheap and sloppy attempt at a replica?

AFAIK this is a modern imitation of a Spanish colonial 8 reales coin (a.k.a. "piece of eight").

I'm pretty sure I've seen this specific style of replica somewhere recently, though I can't recall exactly where. It's a pretty bad copy.

Lots of questions. Found where? How? Dimensions? Weight? These answers would all offer good clues.
Most coin/bullion dealers have a metal tester, in a few seconds you'd know what it's made of (or at least what it's not); that's a great first step.
Definitely not Roman. That cross on the reverse is stereotypical of a Spanish piece of eight.

Is it the photos, or is the detail lacking crispness?

Could it be cast instead of hammered? Is there a mould line around the edge?

Like january1may I've seen this style of replica before - I googled around and found others like it. Also there was a link posted to these, which look to be the same die or mold.
