Hey folks

Cannot find a variety attribution on this one..

Let me know what you think.

Yes photos are blurry, but last photo is well enough to see what I'm referring to.

Thanks!

You can still download Flynn's reference from one of the dime auctions, for example https://coins.ha.com/itm/barber-dim...3270-93248.s
The closest match seems to be RPD-003 on page 108. The images do not show your 1/1 and not much at all frankly, but it does mention the heavy die chip from 8 to bust, which on yours appears to be an earlier state. However, it only mentions repunching of the 9. So it's also possible that yours is not documented.
The Lawrence book has one RPD but it's not the same one. https://archive.org/details/compgui...n55/mode/2up

I'm not a dime variety expert - so by your thread title I suppose I'm prohibited from responding.

In that case - best of wishes for finding enough 'experts' to give your some opinions.

Thanks for the help pointing in the right direction folks!

Thread is for anyone to reply, title is just keywords to attract attention.

That's as far as I could go on this. I assume what you're seeing is the 1/1 repunch and possibly the die chip. You could look through BCCS journal archives and see if someone wrote it up, here https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/publi...etail/511173. I have the more recent journals going back about 5 years but I don't recall any articles on an 1898 RPD.
