Today is Maundy Thursday, when traditionally the British monarch gives as many silver pence to as many impoverished elderly people as there are years in his or her age. Medieval kings distribued the Maundy in the form of silver pennies, and also washed the feet of each recipient - a tradition which happily is no longer observed by modern monarchs!

Since the reign of King George III the coins have been minted in special sets in the denominations of 1, 2, 3 and 4 pence. The coins have retained almost the same reverse design since their introduction, and their face value was raised from old pence to new pence on and from February 15, 1971. All Maundy coins minted since 1816 are still legal tender.

The Maundy ceremony today is taking place at Worcester Cathedral, and, owing to King Charles III's illness, the coins will be handed out by Queen Camilla. It's very unusual for a consort to distribute the Royal Maundy.

I'm afraid not. I haven't seen any Charles III Maundy coins myself. The easiest sets to get are from late Victorian and Edwardian times as collectors could order them from The Royal Mint, but King Edward VII put a stop to that in 1908 and since then the sets have only been minted for the ceremony, apart from a few occasions when additional Maundy coins have been included in Proof Sets.
