I can't tell what's going on with this anomaly on the edge of this Wheat cent. It looks like maybe a struck through debris or something like that. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Thanks E&V. I was thinking the same maybe even struck through struck foil. It almost looks like some letters or numbers. Just a thought

I've seen this before. I just caulk it up to a hit that transfers letters into the edge.

Thanks Cujohn. I should have considered that also. I was thinking it's not a vise job but a well placed hit from another coin is definitely a possibility

Thanks Coinfrog. Cujohns theory is very plausible. I didn't initially consider a hit because the area is so clean but I could see the cent at the bottom of a bag at an angle getting pressed onto another coin

Thanks Dearborn. It's relatively small but I haven't seen anything like this before. Back to the hunt
