Hello all,

Thrilled to ask about my latest acquisition! Literally just bought this coin... checked ebay on a whim, somehow this one didn't show up in my saved searches for circ commems. Made an offer, and the seller took it!

I am fairly sure that this is an honestly circulated 1934 Maryland Tercentenary half dollar, and also the only one that I've seen in my three years of looking for these things.

These are the seller's pics, and they're through a holder, but they are decent.

Would love to hear any thoughts as to grade!

Crude and mushy-lookiing, not something that would interest me.

Take and share with us photos of the coin out of the holder once you have it in hand.

Based on what I'm seeing here I concur with your assessment of honesty circulated and likely in the F15/VF20 range.

Nice find for a circulated classic silver commemorative type set.

For comparison here is my PCGS F15 example:

Coinfrog, exactly! I'm building a circ set of these, so the mushiness is why I got it!

Nickelsearcher, thank you. You should know that I check the old 'Days of' thread to see your assessments before I buy any classic commem.

A question - I think I read somewhere that you weren't actively working on your circ set anymore. However, if, for example, you ran across a significant downgrade... perhaps an AG or G York, would you make an exception?

I'm humbled by your confidence in my assessment of these rarely seen coins - and thrilled that my knowledge sharing all those years ago is of current support in your current quest.

Makes me feel proud that I can still help you through the years.

At this time I still have two top 10 PCGS Registry sets in both 50 coin type set conditions - MS/CAC (#9) and circulated (#4).

I absolutely enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, and in particular the unique challenge of finding all 50 of these coins in honestly circulated state. Took me about a decade to complete that quest.

You read correctly that I have long ago ended the active acquisition phase of both my classic commemorative sets.

So, to your question - Yes, I would enjoy downgrading the few AU coins in my circulated classic commem set. But it would take a truly monster coin such as you suggest.

To you Silver Searcher - I've observed your steady progress over the previous few years to acquire these very difficult coins. Keep the goal in mind and perseverance is your key to success.

It would be my pleasure to be able to support you in the future.

I am a bit displeased with the scratch on the reverse... looks like the scratches on the holder concealed it. That's the risk you take with no return auctions with mediocre pics. That said, I'm still glad to have it! And I think the scratch is consistent with circulation wear.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

Much appreciated! Do keep me in mind if you do make a downgrade and need a good home for the "old" one. I'd be thrilled to have a Chesapeake/Nickelsearcher coin in my collection!

It took me a moment to see it. It looks okay for a circulation example and certainly could be worse.

The sellers photos hid it well. I hope they were not being intentionally deceptive.

IMO it's a bit distracting but likely would not 'Details' this coin in this state of circulation wear. I standby my original assessment of F15/VF20.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
