Looking for feed back on this damaged coin, grade and thoughts on value.

This was purchased in the late 70's or early 80's for $185, presumably the corrosion damage was already present but don't know for sure.

I've looked at open and closed listings on ebay, Heritage and Great Collections and find nothing to compare it to from a valuation standpoint, mix of grade and damage. If it were not for the corrosion, I think this might land in VF, but just a guess. I did see an XF details coin on G.C. with multiple significant gouges on the reverse go for ~$2k back in 2023 but that's probably not a good comparison.

For those of you that are dealers, if any of you could share your thoughts on potential retail value, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Nice to see an 1880 - even if the surfaces are pitted.

I would agree with a grade of VF details corroded.

It's not recent, but here is an example from a heritage sale in 2003 that sold for $500. Yours is in better shape, but at least it's a comparable example in terms having environmental damage.

Also a more recent 2018 lower grade example with similar environmental issues that sold for $456.
